Notice

Due to a traffic collision involving three of our cars and inclement weather, Fundamentally Sound will not be performing at tonight’s International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella quarterfinal in East Lansing. Our apologies to Varsity Vocals, Capital Green, and Michigan State’s a cappella fans for any inconvenience this causes. We’d like to thank our fans for their support through this.

We are safe and sound and back in Madison. We’re in high spirits and expect to be back in action again soon!

Peter and Joe at the Student Organization Fair

Madison, WI - We had a table at tonight’s Student Organization Fair at the Wisconsin Union. We spoke with students about the group. Our table was right across the way from our friends in Redefined, UW’s coed a cappella group.

Our Favorite Memories from Tour (January 2010)

“Figuring out that C-Mo gets free food at Culver’s because he is Scoopie.”
~Cameron Marston

“Getting the first ever edition of the birthday rap at the Villa-whats’ house.”
~Adam Waite

“Tour has been the highlight so far of my freshmen year hands down. My favorite memory would have to be the night performance at the Old Gem theater. Having my family all around me singing our hearts out, words can’t describe it.”
~Chris Morgan

“I enjoyed every minute of this tour. My personal favorite part was the epic “SCOOPIE!!” drive to Adam Waite‘s, in which we all laughed for probably 15-20 minutes straight.”
~Neal Cragg

“Getting to celebrate my Birthday twice! Once with an antique music box cake holder at the Villavicencio house and then again with the special Mulligan birthday song! These guys made a birthday that was going to be nothing special, something really great! Thanks!”
~Chris Tiernan

“My favorite part of tour was definitely after the Wauwautosa performance when the girl brought her friend back into the theater and made me do the ‘Drop it Like It’s Hot’ beat…kinda fun.”
~David Porto

“The amazing contraptions downstairs in the Villavicencio house!!”
~Dan Conrad

“Singing Delicate at the Mulligans”
~Patrick Smith

“The incredibly receptive crowds at Manitowoc Lincoln and at Osceola. The energy those kids brought helped bring up our own energy, allowing us to have more fun on stage because we knew that they were enjoying it.”
~Will Villavicencio

“I refuse to choose a specific moment as my favorite. Tour was such a tremendous success in every way that the entire trip is one of my favorite memories of college. My LEAST favorite part was waking up at 6:00am almost every morning, but even that wasn’t bad because we got to sing for students just a couple hours later in most cases.”
~Michael Trevis

“So much to choose from… I greatly enjoyed the wonderfully musical world that is the Villavicencio basement, but the entire week truly was just one huge whirlwind of amazing.”
~Joe Wenninger

The new kids get their first FS t-shirts

“I agree with Trevy that it is very difficult to choose from all of the memorable moments that occurred on tour.  If I had to choose one, it would be seeing the excitement and passion instilled in the new members of the group.  I remember experiencing similar feelings last year, and watching them experience this is a joyous reminder for why I joined this group in the first place.”
~Peter Goitom

JP plays a player piano at his parents' house

“I would have to say seeing the group’s faces and they toured my parents’ basement with all the music machines. I’ve never seen as many mouths hit the floor as that night.”
~JP Villavicencio

“I loved the personal and musical growth of our group. We not only improved our sound as an ensemble, but also strengthened our personal connections with each other. I think the greatness of tour manifested itself for me when we sang “Delicate” at the New Richmond night show. I was trying to conduct the group while also singing my part and halfway through the song, I started getting choked up. I was just overcome with the beauty of making music with some of my best friends and all the emotions of the whole tour hit me right there on stage.”
~Danny Mulligan

Packing up the cars at the Villavicencio's

“My other favorite thing was when C-mo and I were doing the dance in my truck to “Jai Ho” and Cragigi‘s car was able to guess that it was “Jai Ho.”  That was simply masterful choreographing mixed with spectacular execution.”
~David Porto

Performing "Delicate" at the Times Cinema, Wauwatosa, WI

“Performing “Smooth Criminal” at the Times Cinema concert. Performing it was incredibly fun and Porto did an amazing job. Especially the crowd getting into it.”
~Dan Conrad

RARB Submission, Rehearsal

The executive board does work before rehearsal

Madison, WI - The big news of the day is that we’ve officially submitted “Stratosphere” for review by the Recorded A Cappella Review Board. RARB accepts any a cappella album, has three of its select reviewers judge the album across many musical and artistic categories, and publishes those reviews on its website. A good set of reviews for an album can go a long way toward gaining national attention in the a cappella community, but we are mostly interested in hearing some constructive criticism about our first studio venture as we begin work on our sophomore album.

At rehearsal tonight, we worked exclusively on our set for our International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Quarterfinal next Saturday (January 30th) in East Lansing, MI.
